0-1 Victor Sánchez 16'
A deflected effort from loan midfielder Victor Sánchez was enough to give Getafe yet another victory at the Sardinero against a Racing side who will feel they should have at least managed a draw.
Although the visitors drew first blood, Racing were the better side for the vast majority of this game, and only poor finishing and some great saves from Jordi Codina kept Getafe en route for all three points.
In what was a dispiriting day for the Cantabrians, Markus Rosenberg was sent off minutes before full-time for a second bookable offence.

JORNADA 1: Racing Santander 1-4 Getafe
Cantabrones silenced by blue tsunami
A convincing win over coastal minnows Racing puts Getafe in their rightful place atop La Liga after the first matchday.*
Rafa was the first to swing the axe of superiority early on before Roberto 'Bobby' Soldado added a swift brace. The hosts pulled one back through Mehdi Lacen before Soldado hit his hat-trick in the second period.
A convincing win, and one that sets the tone nicely for the new season. AUPA GETA!
*allowing for Barcelona keeping the score down against Sporting on Monday night, an admittedly unlikely prospect.

One Goal Keeps Getafe Up!
We did it. Salvación.
A 1-1 draw at Racing Santander on the final matchday of La Liga proved enough for Getafe to stay up, for Real Betis failed to overcome Valladolid in Seville. That sees the two sides finish level on points; an equal head-to-head means that it comes down to goal difference, wherein Getafe's -6 beats Betis' -7.
It's been a hell of a wild ride, but, dammit, we deserved to stay up, and we've done it. Now the hard work begins. It's up to the club to harness the good feelings of today and build a project worthy of Liga survival next season. It looks like Míchel will be at the helm. Based on his tenure so far, he deserves it.
After a weekend - no, a week - of preoccupation, I can finally breathe. And with my first exhalation comes the shout - AUPA GETA!

Copa: Racing 1 - 1 Getafe
Getafe are set for their second Copa del Rey final in two seasons after a 4-2 aggregate win over Racing.
Pedro Munitis opened the scoring early on for the Cantabrians, but after Oscar Serrano's sending-off, the Azulones fought back.
However, Marca claims that their goal was fraught with controversy. Uche signalled for his teammates to hit the ball out due to an injury to Ezequiel Garay - who actually had to be substituted after the incident - but Albin either did not see his colleague's order or instead ignored it. Thus he strode forward and played the ball to Casquero, who duly netted in fine fashion.
Regardless of the odd circumstance, that was a vital goal - and it looks like another trip to the final for Getafe fans! (But I doubt we've heard the last of tonight's events...)

Getafe 2 - 1 Racing
Ebi Smolarek opened the scoring early in the second half for Racing, but goals from Ikechukwu Uche and then Jaime Gavilan sealed a morale-boosting 2-1 win for Los Azulones.
That's four consecutive wins in all competitions, no defeats for over a month, and seven victories in the last eight.
Racing 'keeper Toño apparently picked up a straight red, while Braulio followed due to a second booking - does anyone know if a straight red in the Liga carries over to the Copa? I bloody hope so. (Update: Yes, Toño is suspended due to that sending-off. So too is Pablo Alvarez, apparently, who was given a red card while sitting on the bench for protesting. Because Braulio's red card was actually two yellows, he will be able to play. Toño, incidentally, has apologised to Braulio and the referee.)
Remaining unbeaten at El Sardinero midweek will be enough to see Geta through to their second successive Copa del Rey final, too. More news on the squad for that match as it becomes available.

Bayern Munich - Getafe
Getafe have been drawn against FC Bayern München in the quarter-final of the UEFA Cup. That's perhaps the toughest of all draws.
Meanwhile, Geta welcome Racing on Sunday in the Liga, before travelling to Santander to play them yet again in the second leg of the Copa del Rey midweek.
It's non-stop.

Victory Strikes Again
Getafe 3 - 1 Racing Santander
Told you we'd win. Stick with me, we'll go places.
Full credit to the Azulones for fighting back after a poor start to open the scoring through a Ruben de la Red header.
Even greater credit to them for managing to come back from Ebi Smolarek's equaliser: first, Javier Casquero netted, and then Manu del Moral made up for an earlier miss with a fine goal.
Above all, thanks to Pablo Hernandez for setting all three of them up. What a player - the club will need to find someone special to play on the right after he leaves.
The only downsides were injuries to Uche and Belenguer, but there's no word yet on how serious they are.
Dare to dream: could we be set for a second successive Copa del Rey final? Santander is never an easy place to go for visiting teams, but that Manu goal has made me a hell of a lot more comfortable than I would have been at 2-1.
I think I'll be booking another flight to Spain this year...

Copa Del Rey Semi Final, First Leg
Welp, the first leg of the Copa semi-final's about to kick off. Here's the line-up, bogart'd from Marca:
Ustari; Contra, Cata Diaz, Belenguer, Licht; Pablo, De La Red, Casuqero, Granero; Manu, Uche.
Flashpoints: Osky in goal, De La Red and Granero back after their ineligibility at the weekend, Uche up front... and we're going to bloody win.
FORZA GETA!

Racing Santander 2 - 0 Getafe
A brief update for this one - I've been out of town for most of the weekend in order to attend a pagan festival centring on the worship of the statue of Desperate Dan in Dundee - to inform the readership of what they already probably know: Geta lost at El Sardinero.
Not for the first time, either; indeed, our Azulones have something of a habit of losing in Cantabria, and today was no different.
As Marca somewhat dramatically put it, "Eurogeta can't stand the Liga," and that does seem to be the case as Geta struggled to do anything with their embarassingly vast percentage of ball possession.
I've yet to see highlights of the game, so whether the problem really lies in the invention, I don't know, but from reading Marca's text commentary, I'd have to ask whether or not Uche really fits Laudrup's style of play, as he does seem to pass up a few chances each game, be they half chances or otherwise.
There's no point in crying over spilt Guiza but it remains to be seen where the weaknesses in the squad really lie - and let's face it, they are weaknesses. A 2-1 win over a beleaguered Spurs side who really should have at least equalised can't paper over the cracks.
Still, it's important to keep perspective. Despite flailing around in the relegation zone with five points, there are small signs of improvement, and Cata Diaz has proved quite a find to replace Alexis.
But to be in this position come December would be disastrous. The improvement needs to start anew, right now, in time for Wednesday's visit from Athletic. The Bilbao side drew 0-0 at home to Betis in the 'Nytol Invitational' on Sunday; without getting too cocky, this is a team that we should beat.
